Governor Malakhov returned from Japan and South Korea
On November 23 Governor Malakhov said to the press-conference that in South Korea during the Asian Pacific Economic Summit he had an unplanned meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea which is to result in opening of Consulate of South Korea in Sakhalin region in 2006. The RF President had a meeting with the China Leader the event demonstrated further development of relationships of the two countries in military and engineering industries, trade; as well as Chinese interest in the RF FE electric power production projects. Among the discussed issues there were also possibilities for China’s participation in Sakhalin shelf development projects, and for purchasing gas produced in Sakhalin. During the meeting of the RF President with South Korea Government representatives the main issue was the construction of a railway connecting the Korean peninsular with Europe via Transib railroad. The Governor said that Sakhalin oil and gas projects were mentioned as an example of fruitful international partnership during nearly all meetings of President Putin. The main event of the Forum in Tokyo was the speech delivered by the RF President which outlined the main directions for Japanese-Russian business relationships development. Over a dozen documents concerning various industries were signed by President Putin and Prime Minister Koizumi in the course of the forum. Since Japanese companies are also contractors for Sakhalin-2 Project the RF President voiced his opinion on the increase of expenses under Sakhalin-2 project implementation as a problem of the project operator, its shareholders, and the Russian party as the party signed the Production Sharing Agreement. During the business trip Ivan Malakhov had meetings with RF Government representatives and very important businessmen of Russia. For instance he discussed the option of transporting the gas produced under S-1 project via pipelines constructed under S-2 project with Victor Hristenko Minister of Industry and Energy of the RF. South Korea and Sakhalin region successfully cooperate in fishing industry
Governor Malakhov he had a meeting with the Pusan Mayor during the Asian Pacific Economic Summit-2005. The Sakhalin Governor invited the Pusan Mayor and South Korean businessmen involved in fish growing to Sakhalin as the Sakhalin fish breeding plants specialists are very interested in the Korean technology of fish growing. The Pusan Mayor accepted the invitation and although the date was not set yet Ivan Malakhov said that he considered it to be a good prerequisite for successful cooperation in fishing industry for both South Korea and Sakhalin region. Living standard in Sakhalin region is rising
The living standard in Sakhalin region is rising reported Sakhalin Economy Committee. Within 9 months of 2005 the average income of a Sakhalin resident reached 11, 380 rubles, it is by 30.4 % more as compared to the similar period of 2004. Wages have grown in such industries as agriculture and timber production, hunting and construction, processing industries and mining operations. Purchasing capacity has grown by 9.5 %. The rate of residents with low incomes reduced from 42 % in 2000y. to 23.8 % in 2005y.

Novogodnyaya Mozaika– 2006 contest announced in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk
Novogodnyaya Mozaika– 2006 Contest for owners of shops and kiosks will be announced in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk on December 1, 2005. The contest participants compete in decorating and adorning their shop windows and territory in front of their shops. The winners will be determined on January 15, 2006. Sakhalin Department On Trade and Industry reported.
