The Sakhalin Region is founded the 2th January 2, 1947.
It includes Sakhalin Island with bordering islands and Kuril islands.
Sakhalin Region is a part of the Far East Federal District.
Territory - 87,1 thousand sq. km.
The population 608 000
The regional centre - Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
The Executive power of the Sakhalin Region is the Regional Administration.

The Governor is elected by the population of the Region.
The Legislature of the Sakhalin Region is  the Sakhalin Regional Duma.
The Sakhalin Regional Duma is elected for the four-year period and consists of 27 deputies, elected by the population of Region.
